Paphos has long been a popular European holiday destination, appealing to all types of holidaymakers due to its diverse attractions. Whilst there is plenty going on in the town itself, there are a number of great places to visit nearby perfect for a day trip. Here we have picked out our favourite three.
Troodos Mountains
A day spent in the Troodos Mountains is a day trip to remember. The Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery
Founded in the 12th century as a shrine to the Virgin Mary, this monastery has incredible architecture as well as a great collection of frescoes.

Wind your way around the roads to the top of Mount Olympus, Cyprus’s highest mountain at 6400 feet for incredible panoramas.
Omodos
Omodos is one of the Troodos mountains most unspoilt villages and also the wine capital of Cyprus where you can sample some of the country’s wine specialities.
Visit Limassol
Limassol is Cyprus’s busiest and biggest resort, but it is also perhaps the most underrated. The city has a beautiful old town as well as a contrasting cosmopolitan vibe with a great shopping and restaurant scene.
The old town, located around the old fishing harbour is the perfect place to while away half a day, admiring the 19th century buildings before stopping off for a long lunch in one of the pavement cafes. History and culture buffs will want to check out the Roman ruins, Amathus and the medieval Lemesos castle which once hosted the medieval Royal wedding of Richard the Lionheart, King of England, and Berengaria of Navarre.
For the best shopping on the island, head to Limassol’s Makarios Avenue where exclusive shops are the perfect place to treat yourself to some stylish goods. Limassol can also rival Cyprus’s other popular beach destinations as it is home to the beautiful blue flag beach, Dasoudi, which has glorious golden sands and plenty of watersports on offer.
Coral Bay
If you are looking for a day trip to a beach then look no further than Coral Bay, which is just a fifteen minute drive (or thirty minutes on a public bus) from Paphos. The 600m of sandy beach has a picturesque location set between vineyards and banana plantations, with limestone cliffs as its backdrop. The crystal clear waters are clear and shallow making them perfect for families with young children. Water Sports fans will be kept happy with several outlets having set up on the sands offering everything from windsurfing to catamaran trips.
