Upon arrival in Evora you will explore this charming little town. Popular monuments to visit include the ancient Roman temple - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Chapel of Bones, whose interior walls are covered in human skulls and bones; and Evora Cathedral, the largest medieval cathedral in Portugal and home to one of the oldest Renaissance organs in Europe. Moura - Alqueva - Reguengos De Monsaraz

Day 3

In the morning, depart for the town of Moura with its beautifully preserved Moorish neighbourhood, featuring narrow streets and pristine white cottages. Whilst here, be sure to visit Moura Castle and take in the panoramic views of the town from atop the Torre de Menagem. Afterwards, visit the local markets and then enjoy a guided boat trip on Lake Alqueva, a 250 square-kilometre reservoir and one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe. Next, head to the medieval hilltop village of Monsaraz, with incredible views over the Alentejo region and a 13th century castle surrounded by fortified walls. Whilst here, check out the church of Monsaraz, which was built in the 16th century and features a distinct Renaissance architectural style. Return to your hotel in Evora for your overnight stay.

Estremoz - Vila Vicosa - Elvas

Day 4

In the morning, make your way to Estremoz, often referred to as Alentejo’s ‘White City,’ famous for its white marble buildings and monuments made from locally quarried material. During your visit, be sure to check out the local markets, including the pottery stalls (an craft that the residents take enormous pride in, as evident by the splendid pieces on offer as souvenirs). Proceed to Vila Vicosa, one of many marble quarries in the Alentejo region. Despite being a small town, there is much to see and do in Vila Vicosa: visit the Ducal Palace (which has a 110-metre-tall façade covered in marble), check out the castle (especially the Hunting Museum) and explore the Marble Museum. In the afternoon, head to Elvas. This historic town was once considered a strategic connection between Portugal and Spain. It has layers of fortified, interconnecting walls, which have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012. The walls also demonstrate the Dutch style of fortifications, with one area forming a distinct star shape. Return to your hotel in Evora for your overnight stay.

Marvao - Portalegre - Castelo De Vide

Day 5

Start your day by visiting the Portalegre countryside. Since this region is at the foot of Serra de Sao Mamede, the day temperature is typically cooler than most all year round. From there, proceed to Marvao, one of the most visually stunning villages in Portugal. What makes this area special is where it sits: on a granite escarpment, a sloped mountaintop with 13th century walls that offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills. Whilst here, be sure to stroll through the village, as the whitewashed cottages are a sight to behold. And remember the old castle, a high-rise structure that offers even better views than the already-impressive ground floor. Return to your hotel in Evora for your overnight stay.
