Part of the Cyclades Islands, Paros is historically known for it's white marble, today abandoned marble quarries and mines where the marble used to be extracted can be found in Maráthi, the quarries were in operation from the 3rd millennium BC up to the 19th century. The mining galleries along with remains of 19th century industrial buildings are still preserved and can be visited! This island is filled with traditional villages with loads of culture and history behind them, the cycladic and neoclassical buildings are very well preserved. The village Naoussa is home to the ruins of a Venetian fortress. There are Byzantine churches, monasteries and 17th century houses to discover if you decide to go hiking! The Beaches in Paros are crystal clear and there are a varitey of water sports for holidaymakers to enjoy.
