Costa Smeralda - Barbagia

Day 4

After breakfast, depart Costa Smeralda and make your way to Barbagia. Occupying the slopes of Gennargentu, the name Barbagia was coined by the Roman scholar and philosopher Cicero, who originally used the phrase to describe the local inhabitants as barbarians. Despite the questionable nature of the name’s origin, the area itself is quite the opposite, complete with vast rolling hills, wholesome cuisine, friendly locals, and pockets of ancient culture that permeate throughout the local architecture, clothing, and events that take place here. During your visit, take the time to explore the local streets and alleys, which are decorated by ancient granite houses, vine pergolas, and a variety of murals and paintings that inject life into the city. For outdoor activities, be sure to visit the Supramonte, a historic mountain range with several iconic hiking trails to give your legs a real workout. You can also visit the village of Tiscali and the forest of Montes, which provides incredible views atop Mount Novu. To learn more about barbarian culture, visit the Museum of Sardinian Life and Traditions of Nuoro buildings. Spend one night at Su Gologne (or similar).

Barbagia - Ogliastra - Golfo Di Orosei

Day 5

After breakfast, depart Barbagia and head to Ogliastra. On the way there, participate in an exciting off-road tour at Su Gorropu, a famous chasm with steep cliffs, unique rock formations, and a rich biodiversity. Much of the chasm has been shaped naturally due to erosion, caused by the force of the Flumineddu River. The area is known for being quite tricky to navigate, which is why you’ll be aided by a knowledgeable English-speaking guide. They will show you the best spots to visit, and safely help you get where you need to be. Afterwards, arrive in Ogliastra. The region is known for its crystal-clear seas, engaging hiking trails, and incredible views of Goloritze and Mariolu. There are many small villages scattered along the Ogliastra coast, stretching from Tertenia to Santa Maria Navarrese. During your stay, you will also get the chance to sample local wine; particularly the Cannonau wine, grown and cultivated right here in Ogliastra. The wine is also made from fresh myrtle berries, giving the beverage a distinct taste that is sure to delight your tastebuds. Arrive at Golfo Di Orosei. Spend three nights at Lanthia Resort (or similar).
