5 Things That Make Djerba a Great Destination for a Couples Holiday

Beautiful Djerba, a gorgeous island off the coast of Tunisia, is famed for its place in Homer’s celebrated epic, The Odyssey and has only recently found its place on holidaymaker’s maps. The island is thoroughly charming in every way with a fascinating history, white sandy beaches and wonderful natural surroundings. Djerba is ideal for a couples holiday for many reasons, five of which we have highlighted here.

Luxury Hotels

On a couples holiday you want to feel relaxed in your accommodation. You want a home away from home with all the extra facilities and amenities that make a holiday with your loved one so special. Djerba has some great five star resorts that will appease your every need making you want for nothing. Fabulous restaurants, delightful poolside bars, world-class spa facilities and stunning views are all in abundance in Cyplon’s 5 star resorts in Djerba.

Great Food

Long and enjoyable meal times are an integral part of most couples holidays and Tunisia has more than its fair share of interesting options. The country’s rich history and wonderful Mediterranean produce has resulted in some fine local dishes. The national dish cous cous can be found almost everywhere and is usually teamed with delicious seafood or meat, which is paired with another Tunisian speciality, thick harissa; a delicious and flavoursome chilli paste.

Stroll around Whitewashed Villages

In the centre of the island, there are quaint and rural villages, perfect for a relaxing day trip strolling hand in hand and exploring. Visiting these villages can often be like stepping back in time and will be a stark contrast to your luxury hotel. The lovely whitewashed village Guellala is a delightful pottery centre, with house after house full of interesting earthenware pots and bowls. Make sure you take some money so you can pick something up to take home to remember your trip by!

Relax on Beautiful Beaches

It is Djerba’s stunning beaches that first brought holidaymakers to this wonderful island and with 125 kilometres of sandy coastline it is no surprise. Perhaps the best beach is Sidi Mahres Beach, a postcard perfect beach that stretches for 13 kilometres with plenty of sun loungers for you to spend the day relaxing on, and a variety of bars to pick up a refreshing drink. If you are lucky enough to be at Sidi Mahres Beach in February then you may get to see some of the beautiful pink flamingos that visit the beach every year.

A Great Year Round Climate

Djerba has a fantastic annual climate making it a great destination for a couple’s holiday at any time of year. Unlike other regions in Tunisia, Djerba’s Mediterranean location mostly sees warm and dry weather with 300 days of sunshine a year. Even January, the coolest month has average high’s of 16°C. In the summer months of July and August the average highs climb up to 32 °C.
